この度、ロサンゼルスを拠点とする写真家・ニック・ヘイムズ（Nick Haymes）の写真集『Dancing on the Fault Line』の刊行を記念して、写真展「Dancing on the Fault Line」を開催いたします。本書は、出版社「KODOJI PRESS」より刊行された作者にとって2冊目の写真集です。

クイア活動家やアーティストのための隠れ家としてあるコミュニティ「サヴェージ・ランチ（Savage Ranch）」を主宰し、アーティスト、パフォーマーとしても活動するラブ・ベイリー（Love Bailey）。本書は、作者が10年以上にわたり、ベイリーとそのクィア・コミュニティを中心とした友情と変化を密に描き続けたポートレイトです。

エンターテイナーであり活動家でもあるベイリーは、とりわけ保守的な地域として知られる南カリフォルニアのテメキュラを拠点として活動し、LGBT+コミュニティの友人、家族、そこから広がるメンバーのため、砂漠を拠点とする逃げ場であり住居、そして集いの場として「サヴェージ・ランチ」を設立しました。本書は2010年から2024年までに撮影された写真が時の流れを追うように並べられており、カリフォルニアとニューヨークを行き来するベイリーを追いながら、自己認識（セルフアウェアネス）と発見の旅路を同時に写し出しています。眩いばかりのファンタジー、ありふれた日常、そして夢から引き戻される冷たい現実との間で揺れ動く中、作者は友人や愛する者たちの大きな輪をとらえます。刺激的で贅沢な瞬間の真下には、耐えと復活、不屈の物語が存在します。感情的かつ肉体的なベイリーの変遷を明かすことで強度は増し、その根底にある作者の深い想いと心配り、慈愛が鮮明に表れています。

イギリス、ストラトフォード=アポン=エイヴォン生まれ。ロサンゼルスを拠点に活動。自身の制作以外にも、2010年より「Little Big Man books and gallery」を設立し、数多くのアーティストの写真集・作品集の出版も手がける。

The photographers’ gallery is pleased to present the exhibition “Dancing on the Fault Line” by Nick Haymes.

An intimate portrait of friendship and metamorphosis taken over a decade and a half, Dancing on the Fault Line is centered around Love Bailey and her extended queer community.

Equally an entertainer and activist, Bailey is based in Temecula—a notably conservative region of Southern California— where she founded the Savage Ranch, a desert-based safe house, residence, and gathering place for friends, family, and extended members of the LGBT+ community. Presented in chronological order from 2010 to 2024, the book follows Bailey from California to New York and back as she traces her simultaneous journey of self awareness and discovery. Haymes captures a wide circle of friends and lovers in situations that vacillate between flamboyant fantasy, the quotidian, and sobering reality. Beneath moments of provocation and extravagance, is a story of resilience and perseverance. Culminating in revealing the emotional and physical results of Bailey’s transition, Haymes’ sense of compassion and care is clear beneath it all. Nick Haymes was born in 1969 in Stratford-Upon-Avon, UK, and has spent several decades living in the USA. Dancing on the Fault Line is Nick Haymes’ second publication with Kodoji Press.

Nick Haymes is a visual artist and photographer born in Stratford Upon Avon (UK), living and working in Los Angeles. Haymes studied fine art, but dropped out in his second year; using a fake ID under a friend’s name he subsequently studied photography at SVA and ICP. In 2010 Haymes started Little Big Man books and gallery.
